A Drawing A Day – Week 15

Here in Suffolk the spring seems finally to have arrived, and we sat outside with our afternoon tea in the sunshine today, soaking up the warmth.  Drawing has been fun, and I have spent several days on one fruit bowl arrangement, elements of which singly are OK but all together are a bit off. Note to self: concentrate on composition and not just set off blindly hoping that it will all be well in the end – not always the case.  Have kept to 20 basic colours, plus the addition of a stronger red for the last tulip drawing.

Here is the complete fruit bowl picture, the dish is ludicrously off and the oranges are floating off the plate, so it is not worth finishing.

I am sorry you are disappointed with your fruit bowl. I understand and see what you mean but the oranges, pears and pineapple are so beautifully drawn and shaded it is a pity that you cannot finish the drawing.

Yes, it’s a pain when things don’t work out as you would like but hey ho I’m onto the next thing now, it’s not the end of the world and hopefully will give me a good laugh in a couple of years time when I look back…….. Sue

You had a busy week and so productive, these are just beautiful and I really like your pineapple. Your fruit bowl is lovely, I just think your white bowl is the problem, so tricky to draw white. Personally just darken up it’s shadows so the fruit looks like it is setting in it and it will all come together. I look forward to your posts each week and there is always so much improvement. Enjoy your spring weather. Karen

Hi Karen, I think white is the problem, but the moment has passed so I’m not doing any more on this picture (maybe I will cut it up and use elements for cards or something). But I will not use a white fruit bowl next time! Thanks for your comments about my improvement, ha ha it made me laugh because I did a horrible drawing today (of my house) which showed how inconsistent my work is. Off to Society of Botanical Artists Exhibition in London on Friday, there I will see what really can be done, so looking forward to it. Sue
