Aha! a lightbulb moment – don’t laugh, I have discovered perspective! I know, I know ………..it’s so blinking obvious but I have been oblivious. A lucky find in a local charity shop led to a haul of drawing books and some intense reading, I got ‘A Foundation Course in Drawing’ by Peter Stanyer and Terry Rosenberg, ‘The Drawing Handbook’ by Frank J Lohan & ‘The Ultimate Book of Drawing’ by Barrington Barber – all three for the princely sum of £7.00, a bargain I felt.
The Drawing Handbook had a lot of really useful practical stuff that I feel I really should know already (like perspective and the golden section) and I think when the life drawing classes end in a couple of weeks I will try and follow the step by step lessons in the Foundation Course book – they look really interesting and the authors are ex Royal College of Art graduates. Watch this space………..
Anyway, back to perspective, I am really going to have a good go at unwonking my wonky buildings using the horizon, eye level and vanishing points and all the good advice I have learned.
This week’s life drawing focused on the head and getting a likeness – how hard is that! Anyway, I think I have captured a whisper of a likeness in each one, in the first one I have got the mouth sort of right and in the second one I have caught her direct gaze (even though it does not look like her). And poor John (done before I had any tuition) looks soooooo gloooooomy, poor boy.
This weeks daubs…….
