I cracked out the serious charcoal this week! What fun, I had forgotten; I have been fiddling around with charcoal wrapped in a pencil – ha, that’s for wimps. I now have a box of willow charcoal which comes in virtually weightless slender twiglet shaped pieces of blackness. Thanks to Ed (my life drawing teacher) who got us to use tone this week I have felt very ‘artistic’ and getting very dirty.
These are nice. I can’t do charcoal, it bothers me because of the mess. Even Conté pencils bug me because of the mess. It’s like when you read about artists using powdered graphite–yikes it’s so smudgy and messy. (Runs off screaming…..)
I do know what you mean! But once you get to a certain point of grubbiness you might as well carry on:)
What a great range of drawings this week, beautiful orange thingy and I love your charcoal. It takes me a little while to re-embrace the mess of charcoal, it’s like getting muddy, the first few smudges are a worry then you get over it and dive right in.
Yes, I like the orange thingy and the legs. Ha! you don’t know the meaning of dirty until you have used black oil-based printing ink as your medium for the message of lino cuts! I now use slinky vinyl gloves – you have some so you could use those, Sue.
