Just a quickie this week, I have no excuses now, my room is set up and I have purchased some great lights so I can see what I am doing, but I am finding it hard to focus. But September is here and September always feels like a new beginning (even though the school year has no relevance in my life anymore), so I am hopeful I will begin to settle down and start drawing properly again.
Moving in, moves on and my current obsessions are not artistic but sadly prosaic involving soft furnishings and light fitments which involve me saying ‘how much?!’ in an astonished manner more often than I care to think about. My new garden has been planted for low maintenance and not for beauty so there is not much to inspire me but I have been making plans for next year to dig up the grass and cram the space with the edible and the beautiful.
Gradually the swirling piles of possessions are beginning to settle, and this place is beginning to feel like home. I have been disorientated in the early mornings when I fail to recognise the ceiling in my new bedroom and wonder where I am. I have little moments when it dawns on me that someone else is living in ‘my house’ and I have vivid memories of the old place, strengthened I suspect by the sketches I made. All this said, I am happy in the new house and this week I even unearthed my coloured pencils and gave them an airing.
Here are my drawing for Week 34 – I continue to be amazed that I have continued this project for so long, I guess it has become a habit…..
The weeks are passing at a terrifying speed and we are gradually settling into our new home. I now have the start of a usable workroom and I am looking forward to getting my coloured pencils out again. This past few weeks I have only had a pencil case and sketchbook easily to hand, the sewing has gone for a burton as I am too tired when I sit down in the evening and I haven’t sorted out a good sewing light. Item 151 on the ‘to do’ list…………….
This weeks offerings:
This has been the hardest week of the year so far to keep the project going. I thought it was hard enough before the move when I was packing everything away – well little did I know that that was the easy bit. Unpacking is far, far harder – who knew! This is because as each item is unpacked it has to be put away or placed somewhere and in a new house these places have not evolved yet, so each item has to be thought about and that takes time. Most of my drawings this week have been late night or when I am out and about and a shocking bunch they are this time.
Just as many previous weeks have involved packing up possessions now I am involved with unpacking them….. My workroom has become the dumping ground for everything that does not yet have a place in our new home so I can barely move in the space, but on the positive side the rest of the house is taking shape. I have kept up the drawing but they are mostly late night drawings as I keep getting sidetracked during the day.
