A Drawing A Day – Week 40

Mabel the Tawny Owl

Mabel the Tawny Owl

There was much interest last week in Mabel, so I have cropped the photo and put the enlargement in this week.  She is about 12 inches tall I guess and this is her regular daytime roost.

Things must be settling down as I am finding more time for drawing which is good, I am also finding that I would like to do more time intensive stuff – maybe larger drawings or more detailed or pictures that take more than a couple of hours to complete.  But it will have to wait…..

A Drawing A Day – Week 35

Moving in, moves on and my current obsessions are not artistic but sadly prosaic involving soft furnishings and light fitments which involve me saying ‘how much?!’ in an astonished manner more often than I care to think about.  My new garden has been planted for low maintenance and not for beauty so there is not much to inspire me but I have been making plans for next year to dig up the grass and cram the space with the edible and the beautiful.

A Drawing A Day – Week 28

This has been a huge week for me, on day 191 we finally exchanged contracts on the sale of our house and the purchase of a new house!  The process of selling and buying houses is tortuous and slow and has been a huge strain; the daily drawing practice has given me a break from thinking about stuff, but even that hasn’t worked these past few days as you can see in the quality of my drawings!  Still we did get a couple of days camping at the seaside at Eccles on Sea (what a fab name). Packing is now in full swing and my workroom is all packed up, if I manage a drawing a day in the next week it will be a flipping miracle………… Goodbye country cottage, hello townie life.

A Drawing A Day – Week 24

A bit of drama with the making of drawing 164 – drawing whilst having a bonfire is not a good idea!  Too much fuel on the fire made it quite fierce and hot with smuts flying all over the place. I got a bit panicky so had to pay attention to keeping the fire under control, and when it had died down then the rain started………. So first fire and then water – I lost heart with my sketching and went indoors for a nice cup of tea.  And drawing 165 has the record for being the sketch that took the least amount of time (but at least I took my drawing things on my walk).

A Drawing A Day – Week 23

It still does not feel like summer here, we are having a long cold spring, I think we have only had one hot day so far.  But the countryside is green and spectacular and the weeds in the garden are flourishing.  Yesterday was day 160, and I have not missed a day, I deserve a pat on the back (pats herself on the back).  Anyway, here are this week’s efforts, I am really enjoying the water colour pencils and have treated myself to a few more (the boxed set has a very poor selection of greens) so I am waiting impatiently for the postman.

A Drawing a Day – Week 21

Week 21 – it started with a bang and ended with a whimper, such is life and such has been my week.  Not much more to add except that drawing has been an escape from thinking, when I sit and concentrate getting something down on paper – then the whole world falls away and I am peaceful for the time that it takes and that has been a real blessing to me in the last few weeks and days. Even saying that, it has sometimes been a struggle to get pencil to paper, see if you can spot the day when I really, really didn’t feel motivated!
